What would we do without the dedicated teachers that teach our children every day? Some teachers stand out by going the extra mile for their students. Two such teachers are David Brewer and Shara Brown of McGaha Elementary in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Last October several PE teachers in Wichita Falls were trained in the SuperCylist Curriculum, the Texas Bicycle Coalition Education Fund’s nationally recognized comprehensive bicycle safety education course designed for 4th and 5th grade students. SuperCyclist equals SuperSafety for the children at McGaha Elementary because David and Shara have committed to the program.
Students at McGaha recently spent several fun days learning bike safety. They played games from the curriculum which teach the Seven Texas Bicycle Laws. They learned how a helmet protects your brain by witnessing the Helmet Egg Drop experiment.
The students also learned bicycle parts by playing a Bike Hang Tag Relay and learned how to conduct a safety inspection on a bicycle. Brenda Chuleewah, BikeTexas Safe Routes to School Local Outreach Coordinator for Wichita Falls, also participated and provided the teachers with some updated materials from Texas Bicycle Coalition. The students seem to enjoy the lessons and should be safer this summer thanks to these 2 great teachers.
