April 24th and 25th, 2007, was the date for Potter and Randall Counties Progressive Agriculture Safety Days. This years 10th annual event was held inside the West Texas A & M University Horse Center Building in Canyon, Texas due to unfavorable conditions outside in the grove.
An estimated 600 Canyon Independent School District 4th graders from Arden Road, Crestview, Gene Howe, Lakeview and Reeves-Hinger Elementary Schools attended the event to brush-up on their safety knowledge. The students were enthusiastic and quick learners for the age-appropriate, hands-on, fun, and safe programs for children.
The mission of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Days is simple – to make farm and ranch life safer and healthier for all children through education and training. Sessions were presented on Motor Vehicle/Seat Belt/Rollover Safety, Electrical Safety, First Aide/911, Fire Safety, Lawn Equipment Safety, All Terrain Vehicle Safety, Look-a-likes, Sun and Water Safety, Bike Safety, and Power Take-Off Safety.
Local Outreach Coordinators Martinez and Cunningham wish to thank the WTAMU Department of Nursing for inviting the Texas Bicycle Coalition to their day of sharing safety tips. The program was well received by the students and on-looking adults who offered supportive comments. We look forward to future participation with this worthwhile group.
