Lone Star Cyclists Bike Club Website
Lone Star Cyclists is an organization of road bicycling enthusiasts (solo road, recumbent, tandem and self-contained touring riders) mainly from Arlington, Grand Prairie and other areas south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. We are dedicated to the interests of recreational bicycling, bicycling safety, and camaraderie of the highest nature in our membership. We like to ride our bikes, get home in one piece, and we seriously enjoy having fun.
Established in 1973 as the Grand Prairie Bicycling Association, Lone Star Cyclists have weekly Saturday club rides that vary from week to week and enjoy coming together for special events throughout the year (an end-of winter party in February, a club picnic in May, an annual trip to Meridian State Park for camping and bicycling in October, and an annual holiday party in December). Our club is affiliated members of the League of American Bicyclists and the Adventure Cycling Association.
We organized the Tour d’ Italia bicycle rally in 1985, which is now in its 22nd year. It is our club’s main fundraiser and held annually the third Saturday of June in Italy , Texas. A part of our proceeds go to such non-profit institutions as Italy High School ’s Scholarship Fund, The North Texas Food Bank, Brighter Tomorrows (a Grand Prairie women’s shelter), MADD, and Texas Bikes For Tykes.
Annual membership in Lone Star Cyclists is open to all and costs $20 for either individuals or families. Members receive our monthly, and most informative, newsletter Shifting Times, discounts varying from 10% – 15% at participating bicycle shops with your membership card, programs of interest to bicyclists at our club meetings, a wealth of first-hand bicycling knowledge from long-time cyclists, and the opportunity to ride somewhere every weekend throughout the year.
EVERYONE IS WELCOMED, SO WHY NOT JOIN US ON ONE OF OUR SATURDAY CLUB RIDES FOR A TEST RIDE!
