Legislative Meetings 2023 |
The legislative session is in full swing and we’re keeping an eye out for bills that could be bad for biking and walking in Texas, while also meeting with legislators to remind them that safe streets for Texans of all ages and abilities is a top priority. Rather than ask you to travel to Austin on one day for Cyclists in Suits to meet with legislators as we’ve done for many years, we’re going to focus our efforts where they’re needed most and schedule virtual meetings with legislators as the bills progress. What does this mean for you? If your Senator or Representative is on their respective Transportation Committee, for example, we’ll send out an alert as we usually do when hearing from you can make a difference–but instead of asking for a phone call or email, we’ll also be asking if you can take 30 minutes for a virtual group meeting. By removing travel costs from the equation, and targeting our efforts at crucial times, we’ll be able to make the biggest impact at the legislature this year while not asking you to find large chunks of time in your calendar or room in your budget for a trip to Austin. |
Stay in the know! Make sure you’re getting the right email alerts from BikeTexas. |
Do we have your current legislative district? How about the US House? Update your email preferences with your districts so when it’s time for you to call your lawmakers, you’ll be sure to get the Action Alert the moment it goes out. You can also choose what lists you’re on–just want Action Alerts and nothing else? We have a list for that! Choose what news is right for you: Update your BikeTexas email preferences. |
National Bike Summit: March 26-29, 2023 |
Want to make a difference for biking and walking nationwide in addition to here at home? Sign up for the National Bike Summit! In-person and virtual options for the summit both continue to be available for all attendees, so you can choose which one works best for you. Enjoy three days of excellent content and networking with bicycle advocates from around the country, and then meet with Texas Members of Congress on Lobby Day, March 29. (All Lobby Day meetings with Texas Members will be virtual, even for folks attending the summit in person.) Don’t worry if you’ve never spoken to a Congressional office before: we’ll have training together ahead of time, plenty of talking points from the League of American Bicyclists, and new folks will be paired with more experienced attendees so you won’t be thrown straight into the deep end. Your participation during Lobby Day can be the difference between us getting a meeting with your Congressional office or not, so don’t miss out! Learn more and register for NBS ’23 here. |
