An inch of rain was gratefully received the night before the May 16, 2009 Kids Kup at the X-Bar Shootout to finish out the final Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association (TMBRA) Spring 2009 event for the Championship Point Series.
A spirited group of kids and parents, including mountain bike racing families, local area families and a batch of cousins from the X-Bar Ranch‘s Meador family, made for a great event. After youth racing expert Bill Payne held the kids’ (and parents’) rapt attention during the bike safety talk, the races began and every “Kids Kupper” left that afternoon with a finisher’s medal.
The TMBRA Fall 2009 kickoff event will be September 5-6, 2009 (Labor Day weekend) at the Camp Eagle Classic Mountain Bike Festival, sponsored by Hill Country Bicycle Works of Kerrville and Fredericksburg, Richardson Bike Mart and Kerrville Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Like the X-Bar ranch, Camp Eagle lies deep in the beautiful hills and canyons of the west edge of the Hill Country. The Kids Kup will be held Saturday, September 5 at 2:00 pm with registration from noon to 2:00 pm. Check the TMBRA and BikeTexas websites for details.
BikeTexas Kids Kup is a FREE, fun, off-road bike event designed to produce smiles on the faces of all young participants as they finish. Every child receives a medal.
Age range is 12 all the way down to tykes on trikes and training wheels. Parents can run behind and “help” the younger folks. If your child wants to be in Kids Kup, he or she is old enough.
Helmets are required. Any standard kid’s bike in good repair is fine. All kids are welcome regardless of whether parents are cyclists or not. There may be a gate fee at ranches or parks hosting TMBRA and Kids Kup events.
