On a mild Sunday in January, Houstonians strolled on the recently-scraped construction easement of the planned MKT Trail through the near-downtown Houston Heights, perhaps imagining that the concrete, the trees, and the signage of the finished project were in place.
After many frustrating years in the “planning” stage, ground had finally been broken on the trail, which runs along the long-gone MKT Railroad line through the Heights. This was one of many projects outlined by City of Houston Bicycle/Pedestrian coordinator Dan Raine at a BikeHouston meeting this past January 27. Dan is still seeking input from anyone interested in making Houston a better place to bike or walk as he and other bike advocates work to update the 1993 Houston Bike Plan.
