BikeTexas has endorsed candidates in several Austin-based races:
US Representative, TX 37th: BikeTexas endorses our longtime friend and ally Lloyd Doggett. Rep Doggett has proven time and again that he is willing to work tirelessly to make sure that biking and walking infrastructure has the funding and leadership required to see projects through to completion. Most recently, he worked to secure additional funding for the 30-mile MoKan loop trail in Austin. BikeTexas is confident that Rep. Doggett will continue to be a friend to people who ride bikes in his district, across Texas, and throughout the nation.
US Representative, TX 35th: BikeTexas endorses Greg Casar. On a city council that was very good for biking and walking in Austin, Greg was one of the best for active transportation. He has offered support and leadership to multiple bond referendums that have provided funding for biking and walking infrastructure around Austin.
Texas House, District 51: BikeTexas endorses Lulu Flores, a longtime civic leader running for her first term in office. Lulu is already a solid supporter of active transportation—among other things, she hosted a bike ride to the polls during her primary election—and we believe she will be a strong voice at the legislature for people who bike and walk in Texas.
Austin Mayor: BikeTexas endorses Kirk Watson. At the legislature, Kirk authored several pro-bike bills and was open and helpful to people who ride bikes in Texas. As the former Austin mayor, he helped lay a foundation for Austin to become the bikeable city it is now with his work to improve downtown, and we are confident that he will continue to expand on the work that has been done to encourage active transportation in Austin.
Austin City Council District 5: BikeTexas endorses Ken Craig. After seven years working on former councilmember Ann Kitchen’s staff, Ken has deep experience and knowledge of how the city council works, and has seen firsthand how to support biking and walking as a member of the council.
Austin City Council District 8: BikeTexas endorses Paige Ellis for a second term. In her first term, Paige successfully sponsored the biggest bond referendum for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure funding in Texas history.
Austin City Council District 9: BikeTexas endorses our longtime friend Tom Wald. Tom has a long history as a bicycle advocate and civic leader in Austin and we have no doubt his would be a strong voice on the city council for people who ride bikes.
