Local Outreach Coordinators, Durwood Mayfield and Sherman Phillips will host a booth at the Drug Free Back to School Bash to be held August 13th from 3:00-8:00pm at Mackenzie Park in Lubbock.
The Drug Free Back to School Bash this year will be free to all participants and feature balloons, clowns, face painting, carnival games, music, dancing, food and school supplies. The BikeTexas booth will showcase the BikeTexas Safe Routes to School program, and will have bikes available for some participants to actually join in a safety demonstration. This will be similar to the programs taught in our curriculum that is made available to the 4th and 5th grade teachers who receive our training.
We also hope that our bicycle riding robot will be able to make the trip to Lubbock for an appearance. We are expecting to have a skills riding exhibition by some of our local cyclists. There is expected to be approximately 1500-2000 attendees this year. This year’s sponsors of the Bash will be Lubbock County Voices Coalition and Managed Care Center for Addictive and Other Disorders. For information call, Durwood @ 806-252-2586 or the office @ 512-476-7433.
