Jim Wilson & Kyle Carr of the Lockheed Martin Recreation Association (LMRA) Bicycle Club were very happy to call out the Tri CowTown Triathlon Club, the Fort Worth Pearl Izumi store, the Fort Worth Mountain Bike Assn, and the Bicycles Inc store of Fort Worth as those represented at a Benbrook City Council meeting on the 1st of February. To add those acknowledgments to their presentation furthered their explanation that cycling brings immeasurable positive exposure to the City of Benbrook.
The LMRA Bicycle Club is but one club that cycles in Benbrook and demonstrating that to council members was important. Once again, cyclists are not a minority when they are gathered together.
The City of Benbrook continues to embrace cycling. Last spring the Benbrook City Council was asked to designate Winscott Rd a bike route. In just 6 weeks the city had erected those signs.
On February 1st the Benbrook City Council amended its Comprehensive Plan to include the city-wide, on-road bicycle network presented by the LMRA Bicycle Club. Now it will be part of the City’s annual budget allotments.
The City’s staff believes completion of the major portion of that network can be accomplished in as little as 1-2 years! The next step will be to ask that funds be allocated this year to begin the initial phase of this bicycle route network.
Again, thanks to cyclists from across Tarrant County and Fort Worth retailers for showing their support and appreciation to a city for actions already taken, and yet to come. To see a Texas community embrace cycling is a great way to start the New Year!
