Best Year Yet at Hotter’N Hell Hundred

For over a decade BikeTexas staff have made the six-hour trip from our home base in Austin to Wichita Falls to attend the largest cycling event in our great state: the Hotter’N Hell 100. Now in its 31st year, the event routinely draws around 15,000 riders. And for nearly as long as we’ve been going there, HH100 has been a BikeTexas Event Member, making a generous donation to bike advocacy efforts in Texas, as well as providing us with booth space to talk to Texans about getting involved through our bike giveaway and membership drive.

This year was the most successful ever for BikeTexas. Over the weekend, we had 106 new and renewing members join. Most of you who signed up became Sustaining Members of BikeTexas, helping to ensure we have a solid budget heading into this year’s Texas legislative session.

BikeTexas Business Members Richardson Bike Mart, Bicycles Inc, and B&B Bicycles all re-affirmed their commitment to bike advocacy, and we are excited to announce a brand new Business Member– Trinity Bicycles of Fort Worth.

Each of the BikeTexas Business Members present at HH100 donated prizes for our Member Raffle held on Saturday at 3pm. Winners were picked from everyone who joined or renewed at our booth, and included members Garrett Woodall, Gene Todd, Roby Christie (one of the founders of Hotter N’ Hell), Sherry Husband, Torrance Strong (also representing a Business Member through T. Strong Transportation), Marianne Rogers, and Byron McKnight all won prizes.

Each of their names will be put back into the grand prize drawing of a 2013 Trek Cocoa, to be held at our Annual Membership Meeting on September 29th at the BikeTexas benefit event eRock the Ride. Any member who joins or renews in August and September will be included in that drawing. All Sustaining Monthly Members are automatically entered.

For those of you who like us on Facebook, you have some idea of how successful this event was, as we posted photos of many of our new members with their jerseys. We also had at least two people see the BikeTexas Facebook page, call their spouses at HH100, and tell them, “Go become a member and get me one those jerseys!”

Thank you to everyone who joined and renewed this weekend. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
