On June 21, 2006, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls conducted a bicycle rodeo in partnership with the Injury Prevention Coalition of North Texas, lead by LaDonna Cooper RN, Trauma Educator. Over 300 children, ages 3-12 years, attended the wonderful event. Texas Bicycle Coalition was represented by Brenda Chuleewah, the Local Outreach Coordinator for Wichita Falls, who helped to fit the 100 helmets donated by the United Regional Health Care System-Trauma Services.
All the children were able to ride a bicycle skills course, view an ambulance and talk to local EMS personnel, see the hospital trauma helicopter land and take off, see a Wichita Falls fire truck up close and talk to the firemen, and pick up bicycle safety literature provided by Patsy Walls, Traffic Safety Coordinator of Texas Dept of Transportation and Texas Bicycle Coalition. The children enjoyed the hot dogs and drinks. The event was a big success and all are looking forward to doing again next year. Thank you to all who participated!
