BikeTexas Safe Routes to School Local Outreach Coordinators Sherman Phillips and Durwood Mayfield attended the Tech Terrace Neighborhood meeting Monday night. In attendance were several city leaders including City Engineer Jere Hart, Councilwoman Linda Deleon, Councilman Gary Boren, representatives of the Lubbock Police Department, members of the Zoning Compliance Department and members of the media.
The purpose of the meeting to discuss the parking and traffic problems in the neighborhood. After the meeting, LOC’s visited with Jere Hart and Councilman Boren, who invited them to make a presentation on the BikeTexas Safe Routes to School Program. Also in attendance was the past PTA president of Roscoe Wilson Elementary School, who also invited the LOC’s to make a Safe Routes to School presentation at the next PTA meeting.
LOC’s met with the Council of Student Government from Texas Tech University to discuss the new bike lanes and markings. The student government asked the LOC’s to help educate the general student body about the bike lanes and safe cycling.
