More than 500 girls and troop leaders gathered for Girl Scout Day on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the Civic Center. Girl Scout Day serves as an annual reunion for recognizing award recipients. This year, the group recognized one award recipient, Kathryn Morrison of Troop 144. She sold 3,144 of the 269,682 boxes of cookies sold in 2006. Other top cookie sellers were recognized, and Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards were presented.
Booths sponsored by Girl Scout Troops and other local organizations identified many alternatives for the Girls to explore. Texas Bicycle Coalition’s Safe Routes to School staff distributed bicycle safety materials. The Coalition’s Local Outreach Coordinators Fernando Martinez and Joyce Cunningham encouraged all to take the Bicycle Challenge Quiz. The Coalition for Health Services NonStop program, Amarillo College, Discovery Center, Women’s Forum, National Weather Service, Pantex BWXT, Tri City, Amarillo City Library, KACV and Wildcat Bluff joined the exhibitors as well.
Thank you, Girl Scouts Five Star Council, for another very successful year.
