Dear Friend of Youth,
We would love to invite you to visit our booth at the America’s Promise – Amarillo KidsFest on Saturday, July 30th, at Thompson Park. We are presenting our Bike Texas Safe Routes to School program at this event for the first time.
BikeTexas Safe Routes to School – It starts with you! Then, together, we create a safer environment of our children.
We will have Betsy and Beto, our BikeTexas cycling robots, at this event. Be sure to stop by and meet them, bring your bike and have some fun. Don’t forget to wear your helmet when you ride.
General Information about the event:
In 2002, Amarillo became a “Community of Promise” under the America’s Promise program. The seven initial partners (Amarillo Area Foundation, Amarillo-Globe News, Amarillo Independent School District, Amarillo National Bank, BSA Health System, BWXT Pantex, and John Chandler Ford) have been working together to ensure that all Amarillo children are receiving the Five Promises that are the foundation of America’s Promise. Our premiere event to announce America’s Promise to the community is KidsFest, which will be held in Thompson Park on July 30, 2005. Booths will be set up according to the Five Promises:
1. Caring Adults – every child needs ongoing relationships with caring adults
2. Safe Places – every child needs safe places with structured activities during non-school hours
3. Healthy Start – every child needs a healthy start in life with a healthy future
4. Marketable Skills – every child needs to develop marketable skills through effective education
5. Opportunities to Serve – children need to be given the opportunity to volunteer and give back to their community.
As community organization, we hope you will participate bringing your kids. Not only will this event launch America’s Promise to the community, it will also provide an avenue to help families and children connect with Amarillo’s community resources. At KidsFest you will have an opportunity to reach many programs at once – perhaps registering youth for all programs, or just getting information from the community programs or services. Of course, we hope that you enjoy and have fun, free, get any hands-on free stuff for children from any booth! The goal is to provide this event FREE for all families and to offer needed services like immunizations and school supplies, as well as fun things for kids to do. We anticipate having over 1,500 kids and families at this event.
