The Girl Scouts – Five Star Council’s Annual Meeting started the afternoon of Saturday April 21, 2007. A threat of severe storms to come later in the day didn’t dampen the spirits of the representation from three counties in Oklahoma, three counties in Kansas, as well as the Texas panhandle counties. The South Exhibit Hall of the Amarillo Civic Center held a packed crowd to mark the 95th anniversary of the organization.
A Flag procession started the Opening Ceremony followed by recognition for the top cookie sellers, awards for the outstanding girls and adults, and appreciation for supporters. Booths displaying resources in our community and activities for the girls were a big hit. Participating organizations consisted of: National Weather Service, Golden Spread Gem & Mineral Society, Amarillo Museum of Art, Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Managed Care Center/Prevention Resource Center, Don Harrington Discovery Center, Potter County Sheriff’s Department, All American Gymnastics, Panhandle AHEC, American Quarter Horse Association, and the Texas Bicycle Coalition. The enthusiasm of the Scouts was not outshined by the leader’s interests in the activities.
Thank you Girl Scouts – Five Star council for the Certificate of Appreciation to the Texas Bicycle Coalition as recognition of valuable participation in “Girl Scout Day”. Local Outreach Coordinators Cunningham and Martinez wish to thank the Girl Scouts for this award and the opportunity to help “build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place”.
