On Sept. 5, 2009, BikeTexas staff drove down a scenic, rocky eight mile road to arrive at the beautiful Camp Eagle for the Kids Kup at the TMBRA Camp Eagle mountain bike race. Camp Eagle, located in the Texas Hill Country near Mtn. Home, occupies 1400 acres encompassing a spring-fed, crystal clear river, miles of pristine single track, clean limestone cliffs and more.
All Bike Texas Kids Kup events introduce children to the exciting atmosphere of mountain bike racing with a safety talk and races divided by age. Every child gets a Shimano winning medal and Clif bars. Camp Eagle added a bonus of a naturalist talk complete with snakes, turtles and a giant hissing cockroach!
The moment the races were over the sky opened up and poured rain. Since it was the first rain in the region for months no one minded – the rain felt so good after such a long dry spell.
It also rained at the Oct. 3, 2009 BikeTexas Kids Kup at Lake Bryan. The participants in Kids Kup love the outdoors and rain did not stop them for a minute. Once again the sky opened up and poured rain while the parents and children stood under the tent and enjoyed the safety talk. Ride director Bill Payne has a knack for holding the children’s total attention. When race time arrived at 2pm, the rain stopped and the races began.
BikeTexas Kids Kup and Shimano Youth Series races were developed to inspire the next generation of mountain bike enthusiasts as well as introduce children to basic bicycle safety and handling skills. Each BikeTexas Kids Kup event is on the Saturday before the TMBRA Series Fall and Spring events.
