On Sunday, February 28, 2010, BikeTexas staff presented at the 101st Annual Texas Parent Teacher Association (PTA) State Convention in Corpus Christi. BikeTexas had been invited, and took the opportunity to inform the PTA about the new BikeTexas ParentsPlus Program.
BikeTexas staff presented the details of the new ParentsPlus Program, and provided an informational handout about the program and samples of the bicycle safety materials available for download at our website www.biketexas.org.
Currently in development, the ParentsPlus Program will provide parents, plus other adults concerned with bicycle and pedestrian safety, the training and resources necessary to create a neighborhood bicycling and walking safety event.
Carey Dabney, Texas PTA Statewide Healthy Lifestyle Chair wanted to share the ParentsPlus Program with PTA attendees. The program supported their goal of creating healthier home, school and community environments. What better than a neighborhood bike/walk safety event for a fun and healthy community activity for a PTA? The PTA leaders see the ParentsPlus Program as a perfect match for Texas PTA and their commitment to promoting children’s health, well-being, and educational success through strong parent, family and community involvement.
