As we take a sweeping view of BikeTexas’ 30-year history, one thing is certain: our supporters, many of whom have been with us from the beginning, have made a difference in Texas. From protected bike lanes that were unheard of in most of the state even 10 years ago, to ebikes that are now allowed on every trail in Texas, to the recently completed Bicycle Tourism Trails Study that includes 8,000 miles of potential trails across the state: Texas is a better place now because of your commitment to biking and walking for all ages and abilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit BikeTexas as hard as most other organizations in the state, but we will continue because of you. 2021 looks bright due to the renewed awareness of the importance of public space: we look forward to making the most of this opportunity to see more bike plans put into place across the state, and identifying more funding to see those plans carried out. A big part of getting those bike plans in place is ensuring the next generation of Texans have safe spaces to bike and walk to school, to the park, to the library, to church, or anywhere else our kids need to go. As you know, biking and walking together is a great way for families to bond, enjoy one another’s company, and transport themselves without the stress of driving, and we want this dream to be a reality for all Texans who want this for their families. This year, thanks to the CARES act, you can deduct $300 in charitable contributions from your 2020 taxes. Donate to the BikeTexas Education Fund today to ensure our and our children’s freedom of movement, while also reducing your tax burden for 2020. Thank you for making sure that 30 years from now, Texas will be exponentially better for biking and walking than it is today. Happy New Year! |
