Kids Kup Has a Great 2010 Start at Warda

BikeTexas KidsKup had a great kickoff at Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association’s (TMBRA) first 2010 Spring Texas Championship Series race weekend on February 27-28. Weather and trail conditions were perfect at The Warda Race at Bluff Creek Ranch, just off Highway US 77 at the crossroads of Warda between Giddings and La Grange.

Racing the Course at Warda

With the retirement of long-time KidsKup and youth racing experts Bill and Jacque Payne (to spend more time with grandkids), BikeTexas staff Mark Stine and Ryan Hanson, along with assistant Rick Wetherald, took up duties of setting up the course and registration, holding a pre-race safety talk, conducting the race, and handing out medals and other goodies to a very enthusiastic group of kid racers.

BikeTexas again thanks Bill and Jacque for their long commitment to the development of the young folks in bike racing, literally all the way from toddlers to adulthood. We are very excited to have Rick, a Cat A (expert) mountain bike racer who is pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy, on the BikeTexas Kids Kup team on race weekends in between his studies at Texas State University.

In addition to the safety briefings to the kids, BikeTexas staff had a chance to talk with parents about our new ParentsPlus program and distribute boxes of bike safety booklets, both BikeTexas programs funded by TxDOT.

The next KidsKup race is March 13, 2010 at TMBRA’s STORM Hill Country Challenge in Comfort. See the BikeTexas or TMBRA websites for listings.
