The weather was as good as it gets for the March 13, 2010 BikeTexas Kids Kup at Flat Rock Ranch near Comfort, Texas. The many shade trees provided cool places for the children and their parents to gather for the pre-ride safety talk. There were 23 Kids Kup riders, ages 4 to 11, that enjoyed the twisty, winding course. South Texas Off-Road Mountain Bikers (STORM) hosted this event in the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association (TMBRA) 2010 Spring Texas Championship Series. Saturday also saw TMBRA racers participating in a series of short track and time trial races. The opportunity to watch the other riders compete added even more excitement to the Kids Kup event.
After the Kids Kup races were over, there were free popsicles for everyone. Special thanks to Lindal Hardwick, STORM club member and Vice President and general manager of Instantwhip and Flavor Right Foods. For the last ten years, Lindal has personally provided all-you-can-eat ice cream to participants for the entire weekend event. He says the smiles, high fives and the thanks he receives are fantastic.
The 1,300-acre Flat Rock Ranch has been in the Dreiss family for over 100 years. There are over 25 miles of single-track, switchback climbs, technical sections and descents. Riding on the ranch trails offers stunning views of the surrounding Texas Hill Country.
