The BikeTexas Kids Kup Races got off to a great 2009 season start at February’s Mas-O-Manos in Terlingua just outside Big Bend National Park. Recent greatly-welcomed rains postponed Waco’s Bicycle Outback Blowout but a beautiful forecast this week means the Saturday Kids Kup and Sunday off-road cross-country races at Waco’s Cameron Park should come off with out a hitch this March 21-22 weekend.
Kids Kup racer in the 9-10 year-old class negotiates the “Rattlesnake Rollercoaster” on a cold, blustery Saturday at the DORBA Bar H Bash near St. Jo this past February 28.
Kids Kup is sponsored by BikeTexas and hosted by the TMBRA Championship Series held each Spring and Fall at ranches and parks across Texas. Kids Kup is designed to produce smiles on the faces of kids as they cross the finish line. Ages (and age-appropriate courses) range from 12 all the way to youngsters on training wheels, trikes, and an occasional scooter. If your child wants to be in Kids Kup, he or she is old enough to participate.
Links of details and schedules of Kids Kup and TMBRA Championship Series weekends are posted on the right-hand column of the BikeTexas main web page under “Latest Member Events” at www.biketexas.org. Kids Kup is free and open to all children of cyclists and non-cyclists alike.
