For Back to School:

Time for back to school already? Wow! We hope everyone had a great summer and is super-energized for a new school year. Here are some tips for getting ready to roll back to school.

Headed to college with your bike or your own feet for your main transportation? Make sure you know the Texas laws governing bicycles, and check out our guide to taking public transportation.

From around Texas:

Social ride in Hutto tomorrow! We have it on good authority that their rides are always a good time, so don’t miss out!

After a long fight for funding, bikeshare is finally headed to El Paso!

McAllen is also poised to launch its new bikeshare system.

Austin’s B-cycle took a huge leap forward this week with its new affordable memberships.

Haltom City police arrested McKenzie Thomas for the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist in Tarrant County.

The City of Denton needs your help for its first-ever bike count.

There’s still time to take the HTDOT New Bus Network Challenge in Houston.

Texarkana just got funding to finish the Bringle Lake wilderness trail system.

From elsewhere:

Traffic deaths in the U.S. have spiked in the last six months.

The CDC has released a new report recommending protected bike lanes, which is great, but they could have gone a bit further with their analysis of the benefits of riding a bike.

Meanwhile–surprise!– the U.S. obesity rate continues to rise.

After her son was killed riding a bike, Susan Cohen turned her grief to an education course for elderly drivers.

An interesting analysis of public transportation in the U.S.– basically, we need frequency & reliability.

More people may be riding or walking to work than the usual percentages show.
