BikeTexas staff set out on a rainy day on Sept 14 to head to the Sherman Art Fest and spread the word about BikeTexas’s education and specialty licence plate programs. Saturday, Sept 15, was a gorgeous day in Sherman, but the downpour of the previous day caused lower-than-expected attendance at the Art Fest. Even with smaller numbers, BikeTexas staff still spoke to about 150 children and 125 adults about bicycle safety and education.
BikeTexas staff travelled to Arlington on Sept 22 to participate in Ecofest and were able to partner with T. Strong to help spread the word to children and adults about the importance of safe cycling.
The BikeTexas College Active Transportation Safety (CATS) program is finishing up a summer of travelling to colleges and universities across Texas. At UT Austin’s HealthyHorns Fest on Sept 19, CATS representatives spoke to students about bicycle safety, handed out bicycle information, and talked about Complete Streets. CATS will be traveling to Sherman on Sept 26 to attend Professor Aaron Block’s CATS presentation at Austin College and to talk with student advocates in the Roo Riders cycling club. BikeTexas will also participate in Tex Ruegg’s Wednesday ride with the Texoma Cycling Club.
Because Texas is a big state with plenty of ground to cover, BikeTexas staff will be at multiple events over the next few weeks, including eRock the Ride and the BikeTexas Annual Membership Meeting in the Hill Country on Sept 29, the San Antonio Síclovía on Oct 7, the Livestrong Challenge in Austin on Oct 21, the Cyclesomatic Bike Fair in Oak Cliff on Oct 27, and KidsKup events all over the state throughout October. Be sure to stop by and say hello if you see us at an event!
Can’t make it to any of these? Check out the BikeTexas event calendar to see if there is a bicycle event near you.
