Every month is bike month for most of us who love to do bike tours around the Lone Star State, but we also don’t want you to miss out on all the special two-wheeled love that happens during the month of May! Check out what’s happening around Texas for Bike Month.
Don’t miss your chance to hear from Elly Blue, Joshua Ploes, and Joe Biel as they roll through Texas, cooking dinner and talking about bikes as they go. Elly, Joshua, and Joe will make stops in nine cities from the Panhandle to the Valley. Don’t miss it!

We post free Bike Month events on our calendar as we hear of them, so keep an eye on the list of events to see what’s happening near you! Do you have an event planned that’s not listed? Shoot us an email, including a link or a contact person (or both!) for more information, to [email protected].
Does your community want to take part in Bike Month, but you aren’t sure where to begin? Take this sample Bike Month proclamation text, customize it for your area, and have your mayor declare Bike Month in your city!
When Bike Month kicks off, so does the National Bike Challenge, which runs from May 1 – September 30. With categories for your community, workplace, school, and team, there are lots of ways to challenge yourself and your riding buddies! BikeTexas is the local host for most of Texas, with a handful of local groups taking the reins in their respective areas. Sign up here.
Bike to School / Bike to Work Days
National Bike to School Day is May 6, National Bike to Work Week is May 11-15, and National Bike to Work Day is May 15. Is there an event near you? (Remember that your local event may not be on the nationwide day!) If not, why not work on your own? Check out the BikeTexas Safe Routes to School Event Handbook to get started. The great news is that the ideas you find inside will work for events for adults, too!
Every day!
Bike Month is a great time to reach out to friends, neighbors, and coworkers who would like to ride a bike or aren’t sure where to begin (or those who really don’t get why you ride!). The days are getting longer, the weather is warm, and it’s a great month to ride a bike in our great state. Bring someone along with you on your Bike Month rides!
