Are you coming to Austin for the Formula 1 race this weekend? The traffic forecast for this weekend says there will be a lot of cars moving slowly, so why not get around Austin by bicycle instead?
The City of Austin has put together a Bicycle Commuting Guide for Formula 1 weekend, with all the information you need to get around! In addition to the usual Austin Bike Map with the downtown detail the Ride the City website has tools for planning your bicycle route online. Please expect street closures and large crowds of pedestrians downtown; if you ride down a closed street, you may need to dismount to get through a crowd safely. Watch out for pedestrians!
Bicycle Sport Shop will be running the bike valet at the Formula 1 site. Showers will be available, but you need to provide everything else you need. You may also leave a bag with your bike. Bike Austin will lead group rides out to the valet site.
CapMetro, the local bus system, is providing special services for F1 weekend. All CapMetro buses are equipped with bike racks, but keep in mind those may fill up quickly. Bicycles are allowed inside the trains as long as they can be accommodated. Only folding bicycles are allowed inside CapMetro buses, and they must not block the aisles.
If you are in Austin this weekend, have a great time, and ride safe!
