Begun in 2002 in Texas, the Ride of Silence has since spread worldwide. It is a slow (12-20 mph) silent ride in which comnmunities honor their cycling citizens who have been killed on the road. There are no registration, fees, or sponsors for these rides. In 2009, rides will take place on May 20, and the Texas cities participating are: Amarillo, Austin, Beaumont, Coppell, Dallas, Houston, Odessa/Midland, and San Antonio.
