“Are you a member of Texas Bicycle Coalition?” were the words from staff and volunteers working at the Texas Bicycle Coalition membership booth at this year’s Hotter’N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls. The Coalition raised more than $3,000 for its membership program and bicycle advocacy efforts from people joining, renewing and contributing to the Coalition’s 2007 Legislative Warchest.
Thirty-five people joined as new members, 36 renewed their membership; HHH attendees purchased more than 300 bike pins for a dollar per pin. All those who joined, renewed or upgraded their membership were given a ticket to enter Texas Bicycle Coalition’s annual bike giveaway. The Trek 1000 Road Bike was generously donated by Trek & Richardson Bike Mart. The lucky winner of the bike was Geraldine Denny from North Richardson Hills.
Many more people stopped by the booth, and Coalition staff and volunteers told them about the mission of the organization and gave them free literature on bicycle safety education and advocacy. All of the contributions during Hotter’N Hell will help with the Coalition’s fight to get the Safe Passing Bill passed in the 2007 legislative session. Special thanks to El Lago and White Mountain Foods for donating food items for the Texas Bicycle Coalition staff and volunteers who attended Hotter’N Hell.
