Saturday August 13th started out a cool clear day for a ride, it is to be the day for a memorial ride to remember our fellow cyclist who have been injured, either slightly or fatally by motorist. This ride in particular was for Don Albietz a Las Vegas, Nevada police officer, who was on a training ride for the Police Games taking place this week in Las Vegas when he was struck and fatally injured by a hit and run semi truck driver.
Lance Slack a Captain on the Lubbock, Texas police department, who also recently was struck by a hit and run driver, organized the ride to remember his good friend Don and would like to incorporate this ride into the “Ride of Silence” next year. Both Lubbock cycling clubs and the Texas Bicycle Coalition had a good representation. There was a total of twenty riders who rode in the memorial ride.
