On a sunny Saturday afternoon last month, BikeTexas board, staff and members came together at our Austin headquarters for the annual membership meeting. Some joined us in person while others, unable to make the trip to Austin, called in to join by teleconference. After a short meet and greet session and introductions all around, the meeting got down to business (minutes below). But it was after the meeting that the real fun began!
The first order of business was board member nominations. Mike Dickerson, an attorney in Laredo, and Butch Willingham, a financial planner from Tyler, were elected as new board members. Guy Wells, a doctor in Lubbock, was re-elected to another term on the board. Welcome, and welcome back, to these new and returning board members! West Texas A&M Professor and “Hell Week” Ride Director Nick Gerlich, of Canyon, Texas, completed his second three-year term and was thanked for his many years of service.
We then proceeded to officer elections, in which Max Brewington, an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas County, residing in Fort Worth, was elected Chair, to succeed Bud Melton, a Principal with Bowman Melton Planning and Design in Dallas. The Board extended its sincerest thanks and gratitude to Bud for his hard work as Chair for three years and dedicated service to BikeTexas over the years. Karen Polvado, PhD, a faculty member at Midwestern State and co-owner of Texoma Cycling in Wichita Falls, was then re-elected as Secretary. Todd Callaway, General Manager of REI Round Rock was re-elected as Treasurer, and Bud became Past Chair.
Todd offered a summary of the organization’s financial situation: overall, there have been steady improvements. Our income has increased by $10,000 over 2007, the Share the Road license plates still provide a steady, dependable source of revenue.
Next the BikeTexas staff provided updates on our projects over the past year, summarized below in the minutes. Then we got to the socializing! A great time was had by all as we mingled over snacks, drinks and good conversation. Old friends caught up with each other and we got to know new members and staff.
Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting, and we hope to see you all again next year!
