Dear Fellow Texas Cyclist,
Your past support has been the basis for many BikeTexas successes, and we will continue to depend on your support to meet two major goals.
First, we want to effectively meet the challenges today to cycling in Texas, like the Safe Passing Act in the upcoming 2009 Texas legislative session.
Second, we seek to build a stronger organization to meet the challenges facing the next generation of Texas cyclists. We have come far beyond the foundation that our predecessors built in the 1990s. And bigger things lie ahead.
The BikeTexas funding model is similar to a large public organization like PBS in that it rests on three legs: grants, business and private donors, and members.
Since 1998, we have honed our ability to win and manage hundreds of thousands of grant dollars annually from state and federal agencies for bike safety, trails and outdoor programs.
We have asked a wide range of business donors, past supporters and new prospects to give us the stability of multi-year commitments. They have stepped up to the plate and some have even quadrupled their previous generous commitments to advocacy to advance our very ambitious state and federal legislative agendas.
But grants require matching dollars, and business donors want to know what the core members, the cyclists of Texas, are doing for their part to support our mission.
We offer our sincere thanks for your generous support in the past. Now, we ask “members like you” to offer a multi-year commitment of support in the future.
We have learned that multi-year commitments give us a better ability to plan and execute our agenda than a one-time check. And your money will go farther, as we will spend less funds and staff time on constant renewal notices. We are asking you to sign up for a modest monthly membership deduction from your credit or debit card. You can stop your membership at any time with an email to us.
Thank you,
Robin Stallings, Executive Director
Texas Bicycle Coalition / BikeTexas
If you have been a $25 annual member, please switch to $5 a month. At $50 annually, consider $10 a month. And $100 annual members, please commit to $20 a month. (Note: New members who join at the $20/month level or higher will receive one of our popular BikeTexas Jerseys as a Thank You.)
Also, you can be an advocate as you drive down the road with the BikeTexas “Share the Road” Plate. Our bike safety education programs currently receive $22 of the $30 fee for this plate. The remaining time on your current registration tag is pro-rated and the reliability of income for BikeTexas is very valuable. If you already have a plate, thank you!
