Come and be inspired to make your city more livable! RSVP online by January 31, 2011.
Gil Peñalosa is an international expert on livable communities and the Executive Director of 8-80 Cities. He will present many real-world examples that show how modest changes to our transportation infrastructure can have major positive impacts on community health, traffic congestion, and quality of life in Texas.
Legislators and Staff are invited to attend this interesting and educational active transportation policy luncheon and VIP bike ride.
Lunch on February 3, 2011 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm in Capitol Extension Rm. E2.002 will feature as keynote speaker Gil Penalosa, who acheived unprecedented success as Director of Public Works of Bogota, building linear parkways, bus rapid transit, and instituting the largest ciclovia (Sunday Parkway) on the planet. Now based in Toronto, Mr. Penalosa speaks around the world inspiring citizens and leaders to take action to build communities that are healthier, have less congestion, and are stronger economically. He was recently chosen as the master of ceremonies of Velo-City 2011.
After, join us for an easy 6-mile VIP Bike Ride from 3:00pm to 4:30pm starting on Colorado St. just west of the Capitol. We will provide easy-to-ride hybrid bicycles at a size to match your height. BikeTexas has many years of experience helping folks remember the simple joy of riding a bike. Our Bipartisan Bike Ride at the National Conference of State Legislators was voted the best activity of NCSL 2010 in Louisville, KY. Please join us!
