Since 1991 BikeTexas has been improving access, safety and education for bicycle riders and pedestrians in Texas.
We help the most vulnerable road users, including children and disabled persons, have access to better facilities for walking and biking.
We improve safety on our roads through training for walkers, bikers, and motorists, and through laws like the Safe Passing Law.
We educate kids, teachers, and parents about safe cycling and walking practices through our Safe Routes to School and SafeCyclist programs.

SafeCyclist Curriculum
The SafeCyclist (formerly SuperCyclist) Curriculum provides a comprehensive tool for school teachers to inspire kids to bike and walk through education in physical fitness, social sciences, math, and other key subject areas.
The Texas SuperCyclist Program is a nationally recognized and comprehensive bicycle safety education course for Texas’ 4th and 5th grade physical education teachers and their students. Read More….
Safe Routes to School
Far fewer kids are allowed and able to walk and bike to school today than were in past decades. At the same, childhood obesity has become a huge problem across the state.

The BikeTexas Kids Kup events introduce children to basic bicycle safety and handling skills and inspire the next generation of mountain bike enthusiasts.
Various activities introduce children to the exciting atmosphere of mountain bike racing with safety seminars, trail maintenance and access sessions, a cross-country race, and various bike safety education activities, all in a fun-oriented outdoor environment celebrating Texas’ great ares for riding the trails. Texas Tourism Trails
Many historic Texas trails are legendary, not only in Texas, but around the world. The Comanche Trail invokes images of Comanche warriors on war-painted ponies trekking across Llano Estacado on their way to raid in Mexico during the “Comanche Moon”. Think of the Buffalo Soldier Trail or the Chisholm Trail and images of rugged soldiers and cowboys hunkered down around campfires fill the mind.
BikeTexas is proud to encourage and support the development of these bicycle tourism trails in an attempt to foster and promote Texas as a world class destination for touring cyclists. Read More…
Advocating for Our Most Vulnerable Road Users
BikeTexas represents you before our federal and state legislatures. We’ve helped get laws passed in cities around the state that protect children and adults when walking and biking around. We organize group bike rides with elected officials to help them remember the joy of cycling.
In 2001, we helped pass the Matthew Brown Act, that mandated a Safe Routes to School program here in Texas, which has since become a national program helping kids all over the country have better access to active, healthy transportation to and from school.
Each time legislature is in session here in Texas, we organize Cyclists in Suits, where bike riders from around the state to come to the Capitol and talk to their representatives about key issues. All of this is possible because Texans get involved. Read more… and get involved today!
