Benbrook Texas Further Embraces Bicycling!

Jim Wilson & Kyle Carr of the Lockheed Martin Recreation Association (LMRA) Bicycle Club were very happy to call out the Tri CowTown Triathlon Club, the Fort Worth Pearl Izumi store, the Fort Worth Mountain Bike Assn, and the Bicycles Inc store of Fort Worth as those represented at a Benbrook City Council meeting on the 1st of February. Amarillo weather finally allowed the Old Tascosa Cycling Club to hold their Annual meeting Sunday, January 28, 2007. Weather conditions of snow and ice postponed the meeting from two previous dates this year.

60 members attended the Banquet with over 90 memberships issued for 2007. Guests for the event were Mayor Debra McCartt, City Commissioner Paul Harpole, City Traffic Engineer Taylor Withrow, City Community Relations Coordinator Lyndy Forrester, and the local Multiple Sclerosis Society Events Director April Brownlee. Members voted for the 2007 Board of Directors and on By-laws changes. The Club accomplishments for 2006 and plans for 2007 events were recapped.

REI Outdoor Adventure Day hosted at Town Lake Recreation Area in McKinney

An estimated 500 people showed up for this first time event. Considering they were competing with the State Fair, Roundup on the Range, and the Race for the Cure, it was an impressive turn out. REI had 20 vendor booths around the lake, and plan on 60 for next year. They gave away lots of prizes (including a whole camp site), and hope to increase the value of the prizes for next year as well.

TBC Moves to a New Office!

Texas Bicycle Coalition is getting settled into its new offices on E. 6th Street. Not far from the old location on E. 5th Street, the organization has been busy getting the offices ready and organized to prepare for the upcoming programs and legislative session in 2007. The move was a strategic move in order to provide space for expansion and to host dignitaries throughout the state and nation. With the growth of the Texas Bicycle Coalition over the past several years, the new offices will align the organization with its mission in order to provide better support for the cycling community. With room for volunteers and staff to work side-by-side, the offices are a positive change for the future of TBC.
