TBC Moves to a New Office!

Texas Bicycle Coalition is getting settled into its new offices on E. 6th Street. Not far from the old location on E. 5th Street, the organization has been busy getting the offices ready and organized to prepare for the upcoming programs and legislative session in 2007. The move was a strategic move in order to provide space for expansion and to host dignitaries throughout the state and nation. With the growth of the Texas Bicycle Coalition over the past several years, the new offices will align the organization with its mission in order to provide better support for the cycling community. With room for volunteers and staff to work side-by-side, the offices are a positive change for the future of TBC.

Fort Worth Cyclists Elated; City Council Implementationof 60 Miles of Bicycle Routes & Lanes

On Monday, October 23, 2006, at 6:30 p.m., under the leadership of Jim Wilson and Kyle Carr, the Lockheed Martin Bicycle Club gathered over 110 bicycle aficionados for a public meeting at the Lockheed Martin Recreational Association Headquarters. Helen Chaney, Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Task Force planner for the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) made a presentation on the bicycle routes in the Greater Fort Worth Metropolitan Area.

LMRA Bicycle Club to Host NCTCOG Meeting

On Monday, October 23, 2006, at 6:30pm, the LMRA Bicycle Club will host a public meeting for NCTCOG official Helen Chaney to discuss bicycling in the Fort Worth Area. Special guest, Fort Worth Councilman Carter Burdette will also be in attendance. Here is an opportunity to hear what NCTCOG officials have planned for North Texas transportation and air quality, and more specifically, how bicycling in North Texas will benefit. The Texas Bicycle Coalition, along with LMRA, encourages all who can to attend this meeting.

Old Tascosa Cycling Club Asks for More

The Old Tascosa Cycling club held their monthly meeting on Monday, September 18, 2006 in the downtown library meeting room. The guest speaker was Amarillo Traffic Engineer Taylor Withrow. The topic of discussion was the city’s future plans for the municipal hike and bike system. 17 concerned citizens were in attendance including City Commissioner Paul Harpole (a cycling club member), Kenneth Graham, (a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission, & OTC Secretary), Fernando Martinez (Texas Bicycle Coalition Local Outreach Coordinator), Joyce Cunningham (Texas Bicycle Coalition Local Outreach Coordinator & OTC Membership Director), Dr. Charles Hennessey (a member of the local running club), Cynthia Jennings (assistant principal at Emerson Elementary School), and Joe Chapman (reporter for the Amarillo Globe-News).

Membership Drive a Success at Hotter’N Hell Hundred

“Are you a member of Texas Bicycle Coalition?” were the words from staff and volunteers working at the Texas Bicycle Coalition membership booth at this year’s Hotter’N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls. The Coalition raised more than $3,000 for its membership program and bicycle advocacy efforts from people joining, renewing and contributing to the Coalition’s 2007 Legislative Warchest.
