SuperCyclist SuperAggies!

At Texas A&M University the SuperCyclist curriculum was integrated into different sections of my course on health and physical activity. At the conclusion of the semester the Aggies presented a health fair at a local elementary school. The Aggies embellished the lessons with creative ideas. Lessons were presented on the rules of the road and equipment. Road courses were set up for the students to walk through and demonstrate hand signals and proper adherence to road signs.

SuperCyclist Training on Scooters!

We always start out our Bicycle Safety week by watching the Zamboni short film. During the week we have some fun relays with bike rules and bike parts. There are so many good lessons during Bicycle Safety week. Our favorite one is the Bicycle Course which is usually held towards the end of the week. Not all children have a bike, so we set up a course in the gym using scooter boards. The children sit on the scooter and travel through the course. We use orange cones with directional signs on them. There are multiple turns and stops.

Education Staff Partners with Texas State University on Summer Programs

On August 10, Texas Bicycle Coalition’s Education Coordinator, Sarah Garza, and Education Assistant, Allison Seale, assisted the third and final Texas State University fitness camp of summer 2006 for children ranging in ages from 6 to 15 years. The Education team worked alongside Carolyn Cook Clay, health and fitness liaison for Texas State, this summer to provide bicycle safety education for more than 60 children in three bicycle rodeo events that took place on the University.

Education Staff Recruits Schools at Summer TAHPERD Convention

On July 16 to 18, 2006, Education Director Robin Hendershot and Education Assistant Allison Seale attended the 2006 Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) summer conference in central Texas at the Waco Convention Center. With 500 educators in attendance, Texas Bicycle Coalition staff was able to meet and greet representatives from almost 200 independent school districts and colleges.

Coalition Promotes Share the Road Plates to Tax Assessors

Education Director Robin Hendershot promoted the "Share the Road Y'all" license plate at a meeting of managers from 15 Harris County Tax Assessor offices on July 21, 2006 in Houston. The managers commented that this was their first-ever visit from oneof the organizations that benefit from the sales of specialty license plates. Special thanks to George Hammerlein, director of voter registration for Harris County, for his assistance scheduling the presentation.
