El Paso City Council Approves Safe Passing Ordinance!

Congratulations El Paso! Yesterday, Tuesday, December 7, El Paso became the 5th Texas city to adopt the Safe Passing Ordinance! The measure was adopted with an overwhelming 7-1 vote, and will become effective March 1, 2011.

Big thanks are due to City Representative Beto O'Rourke, who sponsored the measure, and to Mayor John Cook and City Reps Ann Morgan Lilly, Susie Byrd, Emma Acosta, Rachel Quintana, Eddie Holguin, Jr. and Steve Ortega, who voted in favor.

Thanks also to all who attended the hearing in support of the measure. El Paso joins San Antonio, Helotes, Austin and New Braunfels as a city with a Safe Passing Ordinance protecting vulnerable road users.
