Loop 1604 reconstruction is an opportunity to provide a safe experience for everyone who wants to bike in the region. The above trail built by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and designed for people who ride bikes at all ages and skill levels is a great example to follow.
Alamo RMA and TxDOT are hosting informational meetings today and tomorrow about Loop 1604 expansion projects.
Your voice is necessary to make sure this project ends up helping cyclists. Tell Alamo RMA and TxDOT that you want safe and separated bicycle infrastructure included in the plans for Loop 1604.
Please attend an open house Wednesday or Thursday, or submit comments online.

The original plans for 1604 reconstruction included 15' wide shared use paths on each side of the highway. Since the project has been cut up into smaller sections, those plans have disappeared.
A study of bicycle and pedestrian accommodations next to highways uncovered best practices back in 2007. TxDOT and the Alamo RMA should follow guidance such as this when planning 1604 improvements.
The Central Texas RMA has been a leader in building trails along with their highway projects--why can't the Alamo RMA learn from its counterpart 80 miles to the north?
