Bike owners do everything they can to keep their bikes from getting stolen, like using u-locks and leaving their bikes in well-lit places. My Asset Tag has developed another layer of security for bike owners—and this one is free.
BikeGuard, a new bike registry, allows users to register their bikes online. Users may then opt to attach tags to their bike to make it easier for the bike to be returned to the owner if it is recovered after a theft. Once the bike is found, the tag directs the finder to the BikeGuard website to notify the owner that the bike has been recovered. The tag also has a QR code to make things even easier for the finder to contact the owner.
The system is completely online and completely free. As with any networking website, the user decides how much information to share and is in control of his/her own privacy settings.
