Established in 1991, BikeTexas is the only statewide bicycle advocacy and education organization in Texas, and we are dedicated to making Texas a great place to walk and bike.

Our member base includes individualscycling clubscycling eventsbike manufacturers, retailers and shops, as well as Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations.

Membership builds the clout of our organization’s message, and provides the cycling movement in Texas with a network of advocates that can reach legislators at critical times, to remind them of the importance of walking, biking, active transportation. Membership dues pay the bills, but more importantly they provide the leverage for legislative and educational initiatives. Members provide BikeTexas with the numbers that matter.

In addition to our grassroots power, BikeTexas has solid working relationships with key decision makers. These include the Texas Department of Transportation, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the National Highway & Traffic Safety Administration, and the Federal Highway Administration, as well as with many of our State and Federal legislators. With the help of your membership, BikeTexas is reaching the people who make decisions about our transportation future.

BikeTexas unifies the Texas cycling community to speak with one voice. We represent the interests of all cyclists to federal and state legislatures and officials. We meet with US Senators and Representatives every March, participate in national summits and conferences, and organize the Cyclists in Suits - Texas Bike Lobby Day, where dozens of advocates visit all 181 state legislators’ offices in Austin. BikeTexas testifies before Texas Senate and House Committees, and we organize thousands of calls and emails advocating important pro-bike legislation. Because of your support, the voice of Texas cyclists is resounding in the ears of our legislators.

The power and influence of an advocacy organization is intimately linked to the number of active members who support the work of the organization. According to a study produced by the National Sporting Goods Association, about 4 million Texans ride a bicycle at least once a year. Currently, only a tiny fraction of them actively support BikeTexas - imagine the successes that can be achieved if every cyclist in the state joined their voices with ours.
