This law would encourage agencies constructing new or renovating existing roadways using State and/or Federal funding to include bicycle, pedestrian and transit accommodations.
Accomodations include sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian signals, curb cuts, bike lanes, cycletracks and other separated bicycle facilities, traffic islands and safety medians, and transit waiting area improvements, just to name a few.
The Complete Streets Law would create built environments that include spaces where anyone can safely walk or bike. A complete street allows different modes of transportation to travel together on the same street, with traffic channelized by speed, and specific improvements at intersections to decrease the risk of injury and death.
Complete Streets encourage people to choose active forms of transportation, thereby increasing safety, improving health, mitigating traffic congestion, and boosting the economy.
