Complete Streets foster strong communities – and strong economies. Complete streets play an important role in livable communities, where all people – regardless of age, ability or mode of transportation – feel safe and welcome on the roadways. A safe walking and bicycling environment is an essential part of improving public transportation and creating friendly, walkable communities.

When people can choose to walk and bike more often, even for short trips, it shifts spending away from vehicles and fuel to goods that support regional economic activity. Commuters who take an active form of transportation to their workplace are more productive over the course of the day. And improving the network of non-motorized transportation helps the disadvantaged in society connect with education and job opportunities more easily, improving efficiency in connecting employers and employees.
