Gold's Gym - Girl Scout Thin Mint Challenge |
Race #2 of the West Texas Series was held Sunday, Sept 9th, 2007.
The spring and summer rains have made the Girl Scout Trails spectacular
with all the tree's and incredible terrain. Chris Podzemny and other
volunteers have worked many hours over the last two months to manicure
the trails into ideal condition. Cabins at the Girl Scout Camp were
available for over night stay by any out-of-towners and riders wanting
to take part in the “night before” activities.
Die hard racers and fans were not discouraged by the muddy trails from
the surprise over night rain. The trail terrain and design allowed
adequate runoff so that the 50 starters were not delayed. Cool
temperatures and overcast skies with a threat of more precipitation
encouraged the racers to maximize their efficiency without compromising
safety. Luckily a minor skinned knee and one flat tire were the only
casualties on this event day.
New this year was an off-road 5K run before the mountain bike race
started. The Kids Cup followed the mountain bike races while race
results were being tabulated and posted. This ACA event was sponsored
by Old Tascosa Cycling Club, Gold's Gym and Outdoor Element Sports.
