The City of Amarillo had a grand opening ceremony for a new skate park
Saturday, September 8, 2007. This project was funded by the 2006/2007
Parks Division Capital Improvement Program. It is a “street course”
type design which can be utilized by bikers and skate boarders.
Avid skaters and BMX Free Style bike riders can now roll over to
Martin Road Park at Northeast 15th and Mirror to enjoy the new
facility. The $200,000 skate park covers about 7000 square feet. This
is Amarillo's second skate park. The first one is located at John Stiff
Park. The new skate park has more of a street course emphasis compared
to the bowl-type style at John Stiff Park. Beginners up to advanced
skaters and bikers are invited to use the park with safety in mind.
Exhibitions by local skater and biker talent were enjoyed by the
audience after a brief Ribbon Cutting ceremony. Over 200 enthusiasts
took to the course after the conclusion of the ceremony as curious
on-lookers awed the skills on display.
