Mayor Rides with Residents |
Amarilloans of all ages cycled with Mayor Debra McCartt at Monday’s
"Move with the Mayor" bike ride. The 15-mile moderately paced bike ride
began June 25, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at Gander Mountain, 10300 W.
Interstate 40. Riders headed west on the Interstate 40 access road to
Bushland Road, then turned onto the I-40 east access road and meet back
at Gander Mountain.
The "Move with the Mayor," program featured a question and answer
session after the event. "This is one way we can encourage fitness in
our city," McCartt said. "And, in addition, we can open up the lines of
communication and make it easier for the community to have their city
questions and concerns heard."
The 85 participants consisted of ride leaders from the Old Tascosa
Cycling Club, cycling enthusiasts, and the general public interested in
their city’s activities and responsibilities. One rider expressed that
she just wanted to be able to say that she went on a bike ride with the
Mayor. Whatever the reason, McCartt was delighted to see the
overwhelming turn out for the event, and encouraged everyone to
continue the healthy, safe, and friendly lifestyle.
