Amarillo Ride of Silence
  • To Honor those who have been injured or killed.
  • To Raise Awareness that we are here.
  • To ask that we all Share the Road.

Amarillo joined cities world wide for the annual Ride of Silence Wednesday May 16, 2007. Nineteen Texas cities were part of the 272 registered rides with thirteen being International locations.  This was the third year for the event in Amarillo, and was again  hosted by the Old Tascosa Cycling Club and organized by Kenneth Graham and Joyce Cunningham.

Sam Houston Park held over 200 participants for pre-ride announcements, and a special remembrance for 9 year old Jordan Kaylee Phillips who lost her life on March 18, 2007 while riding her bicycle near her home south east of Amarillo. In 2001, Jordan received photo and runway awards in a Looks West model contest. She was a third grader attending San Jacinto Christian Academy at the time of her death. Family members rode with the group but wished to remain unacknowledged to the crowd. Thank you Phillips’ family for allowing us to share this remembrance with you on Jordan’s behalf.

The Ride of Silence...

Tonight we number many but ride as one
In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, sons
With helmets on tight and heads down low,
We ride in silence, cautious and slow
The wheels start spinning in the lead pack
But tonight we ride and no one attacks
The dark sunglasses cover our tears
Remembering those we held so dear
Tonight¹s ride is to make others aware
The road is there for all to share
To those not with us or by our side,
May God be your partner on your final ride
