Earth Fest 2007

Wildcat Bluff Center Wildcat Bluff Nature Center is a place where you can reconnect with nature and ponder the impact of civilization. Slow down and hike the trails to discover plant and animal life by exploring the natural magic of the Texas Panhandle just a few minutes from downtown Amarillo.

With the help of Xcel Energy and BWXT Pantex, Wildcat Bluff teamed up to produce Amarillo’s first Earth Fest celebration. Saturday, April 28, 2007 brought people from the community together to learn about environmental issues and the actions they can take to help become better stewards of the environment.

Bike Texas Booth Exhibitors provided education on energy conservation, clean air, clean water, recycling, and healthy self. Age appropriate environmentally friendly activities of face painting, arts and crafts and many other fun activities were available. Guided hikes directed by Wildcat Bluff volunteers provided educational information about the trails and allowed graffiti on the solar slab. Amarillo Fire Department’s Fire Safety House, hybrid and fuel-efficient vehicles, and RnE²EW (Renewable Energy & Efficiency Education on Wheels) were on display in the parking lot. Concession stands were to allow a relaxed time-out while listening to a DJ and music provided by KMXJ Radio 94.1. A receiving station at the entrance was available to collect newspapers, magazines, and aluminum cans for recycling.

This Earth Day celebration was an enthusiastic success. Thank you to our new friends at Wildcat Bluff and the other Earth Fest sponsors for inviting the Texas Bicycle Coalition Amarillo Outreach Coordinators Joyce Cunningham and Fernando Martinez to provide bicycle safety information and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
