The Girl Scout’s Thin Mint is growing in popularity. The second annual Thin Mint Challenge was held Sunday, September 10, 2006, at the Girl Scout Camp Kiwanis bicycle trails. “It was a very enjoyable event and no one got hurt!” was the comment by Maria Stickel, Executive Director of the Girl Scout Five Star Council. “It was a beautiful day to enjoy our camp and we're grateful that everything went as well as it did”. This West Texas Championship Series mountain bike race officially had 48 racers and several more joined the Family Fun Ride. Riders came from as far away as Las Vegas, Nevada and Tennessee.

This race is the 2^nd in the West Texas Championship series. For those who have not tried these trails, it is an exciting touch with reality. With the recent rains, it has been a challenge in itself for the volunteers to maintain the trails. Anyone interested in riding the trails can stop by the Girl Scout office to fill out the waiver and pay the $60 annual fee and ride the trial any day they are open to bicyclists.

In addition to the races this year, Kohl's Department store donated 12 helmets for kids riding in the Fun Ride. Texas Bicycle Coalition Local Outreach Coordinators Fernando Martinez and Joyce Cunningham fitted the helmets. Information regarding bicycle safety and the importance of wearing a helmet, Safe Routes to School, International Bike and Walk to School, and Take a Kid Mountain Biking events were shared with the kids and their parents.
