Texas Safe Routes to School Update
Thursday, 03 August 2006

Texas Bicycle Coalition has participated in a series of meetings for Safe Routes to School at the local, state and national levels. After years of working with our counterparts in other states and our federal congressional delegation, Texas received approximately $40 million for the next five years to improve facilities and to encourage Texas children to bike and walk to school.

Currently, there is a flurry of activity in all 50 states to create new Safe Routes to School programs. Stay tuned to the BikeTexas website where we will post the latest news and opportunities for local funding. Texas Department of Transportation also has more information at http://www.dot.state.tx.us/services/traffic_operations/safe_routes.htm.
