Texas Bicycle Coalition Amarillo Outreach Coordinators Fernando Martinez and Joyce Cunningham were invited to help judge Caprock High School’s 11th Annual Cluster Intermediate School Science Fair. On Friday, May 19, 2006, nine elementary schools in the Caprock cluster participated in the event. More than 1,200 students prepared 335 projects for judging in the Activity Center. Judges were instructed to evaluate each project on students' answers to questions such as:

• Why did you choose to do this project?
• Where did you get the idea for this project?
• What did you learn?
• What would you do differently?
• What is the scientific method?

One could tell some projects were produced with great talent imagination and love. Cunningham and Martinez would like to thank all the participants for the opportunity to learn about the science around us.

Two judges viewed each project. Scores were based on how the students show their knowledge of scientific method, enthusiasm, and interest in the project, speak knowledgeably about the project, written documentation clearly demonstrating the use of research, experimentation and analysis skills, data presentation, and organization. Scores ranged from 1 to 4 in each category. The whole point is to make science fun and applicable in daily life.
