Boy Scout Troop 80 was joined by two other troops to attend a bicycle safety education clinic led by Texas Bicycle Coalition Outreach Coordinators Martinez and Cunningham last Monday evening. Many exciting stories were told in response to the question, “Have you had a bicycle accident before?”

Margaret Wills Elementary School allows the group to hold their meeting in the cafeterium on Monday evenings so we had plenty of room to practice the traffic hand signals. Some of the kids decided they know why "Crash" got his name, because of all the crashes he has been involved in. Helmet fitting, bicycle parts identification, how to fix a flat and some basic bicycle maintenance education were shared with the kids and adults. Martinez and Cunningham were assisted by volunteer Daniel Delgado for the activities. 

Coalition staffers distributed From A to Z by Bike workbooks and other handouts to the groups. A few were heard talking about how they understand why their parents want them to wear a helmet when they ride. At least we know they learned the most important thing “Wear a helmet every time you get on your bike”. The troop leader said she would work with them at the next meeting to reinforce the safety tips we offered. Good Luck and Have Fun to each and very one!
