Bike drive for storm evacuees

Excerpts:
Austin-area bike shops and organizations will hold a bike donation drive Saturday for hurricane evacuees living in Central Texas and the Gulf Coast. The event will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bicycle Sport Shop, 517 S. Lamar Blvd. The goal is to collect 540 bicycles, or one bike per minute.

After a Sept. 3 drive led by musician Joe Ely and his wife, Sharon, "there was still a great need in the community," said Texas Bicycle Coalition's Katrina BikeAid coordinator, Audrey Warren, who is a New Orleans evacuee. The bicycles will go to adults as well as children, Warren said.
